What is kava?
Kava is a traditional drink made from the dried, pounded root of the kava plant (Piper methysticum), which grows across the South Pacific. It has long been shared in Fijian ceremonies and gatherings.
Where is your kava grown?
Our kava is sourced from Fiji, from Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu and from the island of Kadavu. It's made from waka, the lateral roots of the kava plant.
How do I make a bowl of kava?
See our How to Prepare Kava guide.
Can I buy kava in Australia?
Yes. Kava can be imported and sold in Australia as a food, but only under strict rules. It must be dried or raw kava root, imported under a permit, and labelled with the required warnings. Kava is illegal in the Northern Territory, so we don't ship there.
How do I keep my kava fresh?
Keep your kava in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Unopened, it's best used within 12 months. Once opened, reseal the bag tightly or move it to an airtight container, and use it within about 3 months for the best flavour.
What's your returns policy?
See our Returns & Refunds page.
Is kava right for everyone?
No. Use in moderation. Kava may cause drowsiness. Please read our Responsible Use & Safety page before buying.
Do you sell wholesale?
Yes, see our Wholesale Enquiries page.
